Wrap Up of Years Events,  Corporate and Foundation Grants Awarded,
New Directors Added to Fun2U

Fun2U is a local nonprofit 501(c)3 organization with a mission to enhance the lives of Eastern Montanans through recreational and educational activities.  Fun2U has had a very busy 2009 with hosting multiple fundraisers, exercise opportunities and educational camps.  The Sweetheart Barn Dance kicked off our fundraising activities in 2009 and was followed up by a variety of fundraisers including the 9th St. Boogie, popcorn sales, bake sales, holiday card sales, pictures with Santa at Murdoch’s as well as many generous unsolicited donations by the Bucking Horse Sale Board, Chamber of Commerce and the general public.  Fun2U has also formed fundraising partnerships with Eastern Montana Industries for aluminum can recycling, the Community Car Wash and the Albertson’s Community Partners Program.  A variety of athletic and recreational activities have also been hosted as fundraisers including the Woolhouse Fun2U run/walk in April where close to 100 children and adults participated in a ¼ mile, ½ mile, 5k or 10k event.   Summer camps were well attended by adults and children alike where participants expanded their skills and learned new ones through metal working, woodshop, photography, First Aid/CPR, a play date in the park camp and an Irish dancing camp.  Fun2U concluded the fall season by hosting a 5 week toddler soccer camp where 2, 3, and 4 year olds were able to practice soccer skills, work on coordination skills and build on their socialization skills.  Parents and community members from all around Eastern Montana have commented that Fun2U is indeed making a difference for our community and is fulfilling a need for youth recreation in our region.

Fun2U directors have applied for multiple grants throughout 2009 and have recently been awarded the Northwest Farm Credit Services in the amount of $1500.00 to be used for a handicapped accessible ramp for access and egress to the Fun2U building.  A Grand Opening of the Sam’s Club Store in Billings will occur in January.  Fun2U will be awarded $1000.00 to be used for capital funds needed to renovate the bathhouse.  Holy Rosary Hospital Mission Fund also supported Fun2U with a $1000.00 grant in support of recreational and educational programming for the youth and adults in Eastern Montana.  In addition, Fun2U was awarded grants from the Wal-Mart Foundation and the Yellowstone Paddlefish Caviar Grant.  Fun2U currently has three additional grants that are pending and three grants that are being prepared for submission.

Fun2U is pleased to announce new directors to our board.  We welcome Matt Smith: Vice President, Terri Schmidt:  Treasurer, Kris Kilen: Secretary, Todd Gillette and Philip Emmons, CPA.  Robin Hogan is president and director of Fun2U and Butch Krutzfeldt continues to serve as a director.   Fun2U will be implementing volunteer meetings that will commence on January 13th at 5:45 pm at 315 Main St.  We invite you to join us at our volunteer meeting in January so that you may have a part in making an aquatic and recreation center a reality for Miles City!  Fun2U is preparing for many exciting events during 2010 including a major fundraising campaign, continued athletic and recreational programming, grant writing and renovation of the Fun2U bathhouse in preparation for the aquatic center.  We welcome your continued support and assistance with this groundbreaking movement.   Please feel free to visit our website at www.fun2umc.com or contact any of our directors with your comments or feedback.

2nd Annual Sweetheart Barn Dance set for Feb. 14th

Fun2U is in the process of gearing up for our 2nd Annual Sweetheart Barn Dance and we are looking forward to an amazing turnout.  We’d like to invite singles, couples and families alike to a fun-filled evening where you will have a chance to meet up with local friends and dance the night away or outbid your neighbor on your favorite sweet treat.  We are offering a host of activities including the live band “Way Out West”, live dessert auction, portraits by “On the Move Photography”, dance lessons for children and adults by Mila Baker as well as an air castle for the little tykes to jump to their hearts content.  We look forward to having all ages participate in this year’s event so that we can bring families and friends together to support a worthy local cause.

Fun2U, a 501(c)3 non profit organization, has the goal of bringing an aquatic center to Miles City in order to provide a community gathering place for recreational activities, swimming and social interaction.   Fun2U consists of a board of directors and many dedicated volunteers who are determined to build a concrete swimming pool and recreational center in Miles City where you may have the opportunity to sign up for activities such as summer camps, swimming lessons or simply visit with friends.  We have spent two years working hard to build a plan so that Eastern Montanans will have a facility that we will be proud of for many years to come.  We have met with architects, engineers, and interviewed other successful non-profits in order to build an aquatic center that will put Miles City on the map for recreational activity which will benefit families, friends and local businesses.   The board of directors has signed a lease with Custer County for the Custer Lodge that lies on 5.6 acres at the corner of Leighton and Haynes Avenues.  Fun2U plans on utilizing the land and Custer Lodge in order to build an outdoor swimming pool and recreational center for public use.   Fun2U would like to build an enclosed pool as funding becomes available.  In 2008, the directors and volunteers of Fun2U started a 501(c)3 organization, secured a building and land, created a website and raised approximately $25,000.00.  We hope 2009 will be even more productive as we have hired an executive director to assist us in achieving our goals.

Citizens in our community have been dreaming about a facility like this for over 90 years.  With your assistance we can turn this dream into a reality.  Please demonstrate your support of this project by joining us at the Barn Dance on Saturday, February 14th, 2009 at the Omni Center (adjacent to BoJangles).  Doors will open at 7:00 pm.  Admission is $15.00 per adult or you may bring an auction worthy dessert in lieu of the entrance fee. Children ages 14 to 18 and MCC students will be admitted at $7.50. Children ages 6-13 will be admitted at $5.00 and children under 6 are admitted at no charge.  Presale tickets are encouraged.  You may purchase your ticket at the Miles City Area Chamber of Commerce, from a director/volunteer or at the door the night of the event.  If you are unable to come, but would like to make a donation, please contact us!   Fun2U website: www.fun2umc.com, (406) 234-3481; email: havefun@fun2umc.com,  P.O.  Fun2U Now Nonprofit

Dear Editor,

Fun2U’s mission is to enhance the quality of life by providing a facility where people can enjoy physical and non-physical activities, including swimming lessons, water aerobics and a host of other activities. Fun2U is a Montana nonprofit organization based in Miles City. It was founded in 2007 and consists of five board members and numerous volunteers. The initial goal of this nonprofit organization is to build a swimming and recreation facility to appeal to all ages and abilities, with support from public and private sectors.

On the 4th of July, we participated in the parade with a float consisting of kiddy pools and kids of all ages, along with a booth in Riverside Park. We had a lot of fun visiting with local residents about our organization and sharing pink lemonade. Thank you to all who stopped by our booth or made donations. It was a great success!

Fun2U has officially received 501c3 status from the IRS; therefore, donations to the organization are tax deductible. We have been working on attaining this status for almost eight months and were notified Saturday, July 5. This is great news for Fun2U, as now we can kick off our fundraising with federal/state/local grants. We would like to thank Doug and Brenda Martin of Bullseye Enterprises, who chose to recognize our achievements of establishing 501c3 status by donating $5,000. We continue to appreciate the support of our community and Fun2U volunteers.

Our next fundraiser will take place on November 8 during the 5th annual Wine & Food Festival at the Omni Center. Fun2U and the Member Services Council of the Miles City Area Chamber of Commerce are joining forces to provide the social event of the season. The theme for this evening event is “Swim! Socialize! Fun2U!” In order for this to be a successful evening, we are looking for donated auction items. Please contact the Chamber office at 234-2890 to donate an item for auction or purchase tickets. Please come and join us for a night of food, fun and socializing!

In addition, we are still seeking a part-time employee to help administer some of the goals for Fun2U. The job will entail multiple tasks including organizing fundraisers as well as obtaining grants. If you know of anyone who you think would be a good asset to our team or someone who is looking for a means to volunteer, please have them contact us!

We meet every other Tuesday at 5:45 p.m. at the Bureau of Land Management-Miles City Field Office in the main conference room. Upcoming meetings are scheduled for August 26, September 6 and September 23.

If you would like to get involved and have fun at the same time, here is your chance! Please join us or call Fun2U voicemail: 406-234-3481.

Dear Editor,

Greetings to all of those who have expressed interest in Fun2U, an organization that wants to better lives for those in Eastern Montana. Fun2U is a Montana nonprofit organization based in Miles City. It was founded in 2007 and consists of five board members and numerous volunteers.

Fun2U’s mission is to enhance quality of life by providing a facility where people can enjoy physical and non-physical activities, which may include swimming lessons, water aerobics and therapy, laser tag, bingo, etc. The goal is to build a swimming facility to appeal to all ages and abilities, with support from public and private sectors.

To help spread our message, we are getting ready for the 4th of July Parade and festivities afterwards in Riverside Park. We are planning on pulling a trailer with 2 tyke-size pools on it and having as many of our members get involved as possible. Line-up for the parade starts at 9 a.m. at the Convent. We ask that if you come, please bring some sort of water float/wings/beach balls – anything to tie in swimming or recreational activities with Fun2U.

We are also in need of volunteers to help at the booth in Riverside Park for an hour or so on Friday after the parade. If you would like to get involved and have fun in the sun at the same time, here is your chance!

Just so you know, we are advertising in the MC Star that we are in need of a part-time recreation director to help administer some of the goals for Fun2U. The job would entail helping to get the Chamber of Commerce fundraiser going that is being held on our behalf in November. In addition, we need help with planning a fall fundraiser as well as researching grants. If you know of anyone whom you think would be a good asset to our team or someone who is looking for a means to volunteer, please have them contact us!

We hope to see you on Friday at 9 a.m., and welcome your help for a short period for the booth at Riverside Park! Please call Fun2U voicemail: 406-234-3481.
